If...My cat made a video

A woman wearing the 'not A. I.' hoodie

He is rude too.

Why is my cat always hungry? Now you might think it is because I don’t give him enough food, that is not true. My cat has food and water available to him 24 hours a day, in the form of cat biscuits, with his tinned cat food given him at various times during the day.

So why does my cat stare at me when I am eating, when he has food of his own. I think the reason for this is he has realised that other more tasty food that I eat is dotted around the house, tuna in tins in a cupboard, chicken and Ham in the fridge. He even knows when the doorbell goes that someone on a moped, or a car playing very loud EDM, has brought nice cooked chicken, and if he doesn’t guilt me into giving him some, I will eat it all.

I found out that my cat had recently produced a video titled ‘my five tips on how to get more food’. Watch it here. In the video he explains his tactics to get a human to give a cat more food, these are exactly what he does, and I end up giving him more food as a result.
My cat not only produces its own videos, can seem to be rude as well. It will sit there looking at people with its tongue out. If you would like to see the rude cat cat wall art, take a look.

His blatant disregard for social norms and its complete indifference to me, got me thinking to how these traits have made people think about cats throughout history. More specifically, cats and halloween.

Why are black cats associated with Halloween?

Okay, we all know Salem from Sabrina, who was her familiar ( a creature that assists a witch) but is seems black cats have always been associated with superstitions, perhaps going all the way back to ancient Egypt. Cats back then were considered to be divine symbols. In Greek mythology, the goddess of magic, the moon, sorcery and witchcraft was called Hecate, and had a cat as a familiar and a pet. Black cat's link to witchcraft can be linked back to the 13th century in Europe, when the Pope Gregory IX in 1233 mentioned in a document "Vox in Rama"  that they were the incarnation of Satan.

Why black cats became more linked to witches may be a more practical reason, they might have been better at hunting mice since they were darker and could not be seen. In medieval Europe it was also believed that a witch could take the form of their familiar, or a black cat, and this may be the cause of the superstition that it is unlucky to cross the path of a black cat.

Just to lighten things up a bit, not all myths about black cats are bad. In Scotland, a black cat walking into your house is a sign of prosperity. In Wales, black cats were associated with good health and prosperity. In parts of the world, seeing a black cat on your wedding day would be good luck to the newly weds. Some cultures think that black cats will bring wealth and good fortune, In some Asian cultures, if you keep a black cat safe and look after it, it will frighten away evil spirits and bring wealth to your house. For quite a few months now I have had a black cat wander into my back garden, I am not sure if it is a stray. When it is warm I have the conservatory door open, One day I was having tuna with my lunch and noticed it was sat in the doorway looking at me. I gave it some. Now, if I am in the kitchen, it will sit in front of the window and looking at me until I give it something to eat, it seems to know when lunchtime is.

No matter what kind of cat you have, they are unique and lovable in their own way, and it doesn't bother me that I cross paths with a black cat every day.
